Emmer Brothers Cedar opened its doors for business in April of 1991. Kevin's brother, Jamie, talked him into the venture, knowing Kevin's alpine skiing addiction and love of Bridger Bowl. Jamie's ulterior motive was to sell more of his own Cedar to Kevin as he is a long-time wholesaler of Cedar in neighboring Idaho. Even though Jamie is not an owner or official partner of Emmer Brothers Cedar, he was instrumental in its birth, hence the name. The name Emmer Brothers is also nostalgic for Kevin and Jamie because their grandfather, Joseph, started a company in Minnesota with the name, and the company grew under the guidance of their father, Jim and his brothers' influence.

After operating out of a tin-walled shed in Gallatin Gateway for more than a decade, we relocated to our current Belgrade location on Jackrabbit Lane in 2003. We have grown from humble beginnings with Kevin Emmer as the sole employee, to today's streamlined company of 6. However, we remain small enough to work one-on-one with customers and our aim is to achieve a more personalized level of service for the Bozeman/Big Sky area and SW Montana. We specialize in many Cedar products as well as Doug Fir, Pine, Aspen, Alder, Brazilian Hardwoods and multiple other species in numerous patterns and grades.
